Really enjoyed this film. It opens in wider release this week, so I won’t have to run way down to the Angelika to see it again.

Sixties couples Michael and Donna and Paul and Erica become involved with the intense Count Yorga at a Los Angeles séance, the Count having latterly been involved with Erica’s just-dead mother. After taking the Count home, Paul and Erica are waylayed, and next day a listless Erica is diagnosed by their doctor as having lost a lot of blood. When she is later found feasting on the family cat the doctor becomes convinced vampirism is at work, and that its focus is Count Yorga and his large isolated house.

Bob Kelljan’s “Count Yorga,Vampire” is an effective horror film which has plenty of suspense and atmosphere. Robert Quarry(“Madhouse”) is simply outstanding as a deadly vampire Count Yorga and there are some sexy vampiresses. The film may be a little too tame for some people’s tastes, but there is enough thrills to satisfy horror fans.Highly recommended.

This is one film I really do miss. Netflix instant had it some time ago, but it finished it’s run. Not terribly scary compared to today’s stuff, but I still wonder about that cat sequence. That looked more than real. Eww.

Jean “Moebius” Giraud and Ron Cobb’s designs of the space suits for Alien were meant to evoke medieval Japanese armor.  The first two are Moebius’ designs, followed by photos from the production. The last design is from Ron Cobb.

Alien owes as much of itself to Moebius as it does to Giger.
